MANAGEMENT OF HOME
DIALYSIS WASTES IN NSW
This
information was prepared in consultation with staff from NSW
dialysis training units, major suppliers of dialysis products, waste
and recycling contractors, and the Waste Contractors & Recyclers
Association of NSW. It is included on this website to provide
guidance on the management of waste from home dialysis treatments.
Although community sharps are generated during
home haemodialysis and must be managed safely, the presence of other
types of household medical waste in council recycling services
(particularly peritoneal dialysis fluid bags and tubing) is causing
significant OHS concerns for councils and the recycling industry.
