Safe disposal
brochure
While many local councils have developed resources to promote
the safe disposal of community sharps in their local government
areas, the terminology used and the information provided in this
material varies considerably, and can be quite confusing.
This
brochure has been developed as a generic resource to provide an
image - 'Spike the Echidna' and the Safety Stickler format - and a
consistent safe disposal message that can be promoted to all
communities.
'Spike' and the Safety Stickler format are copyright and
can only be used for promotion of community sharps management
programs. All promotional material that uses this image or format
must include the acknowledgement of copyright provided.
The brochure can be adapted by inclusion of the council
name and contact details where indicated, and by listing
the address of community sharps disposal facilities provided in
local communities.
These may include:

of the Baulkham Hills Shire Council disposal brochure.
Some disposal facilities may only accept community
sharps for disposal in a sharps container that conforms to an
Australian Standard, and if this is the case this information should
be included with the address of the facility.
Languages available
The
brochure is available in English and the five other most commonly
used languages in NSW.
These are Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Italian and
Vietnamese. The
non-English brochures retain the English headings and the language
used in each brochure is clearly identified.
Print quality
The PDF files that are available for downloading from
this website are suitable for printing on an office colour
printer. A version
suitable for commercial printing of larger print runs of the English
language brochure is also available on CD free of charge by
contacting David Baker at mailto:david.baker@hnehealth.nsw.org.au

Development of
alternative brochures
If councils prefer to develop their own community sharps
brochure to maintain a corporate style or include graphics they are
encouraged to use information and terminology consistent with that
used in the 'Spike' brochure.
"Community sharps" is the collective term used to describe
all sharps that have been generated by non-clinical activities and
has been adopted by Diabetes Australia-NSW in disposal information
for its members. Click here to view a copy of the
Diabetes Australia-NSW disposal flyer.

As more promotional resources are developed they
will be included on the website. |
